DEPARTMENT INTRODUCTION

The Post graduate Department of English was established in the year 1996 and it was the brainchild of the then Principal of St. Theresa’s College for Women Dr. Sr. Marietta Pudota.

The department was set up to meet the demands of the language students across the state of Andhra Pradesh. It started its successful innings with Dr. Ms. Rajani. V, Head of the Department, UG English as In charge of the department.

The course was formally inaugurated on 14th Sept, 1996 with the blessings of Rt. Rev. John Mulagadda, the then Bishop of Eluru Diocese.

The Department is affiliated to Andhra University with an intake of 40 students each year chiefly hailing from the economically backward sections of the society and from families belonging to SC, ST, OBC categories.

  • • Project Works - The Department took up to conduct project work for the MA Final students since inception even though it is not a part of the University curriculum in order to bring in research orientation in the students.
  • • Wall Magazine – The Department arranges a Wall magazine to inculcate in the students language skills and literary awareness.
  • • Hands –on Experience – The students of the department who are interested in academic career are encouraged to gain Hands-on experience by teaching to the school going students in their locality.
