M.Sc CHEMISTRY

DEPARTMENT INTRODUCTION

M Sc Organic Chemistry course commenced from the year 2005-2006 by the able guidance of Dr .Rev.TheresiaCherian, Principal of the college and with the supervision of Mrs. A V Subbayamma, Head of the Deparment of UG Chemistry.

The dept follows the university syllabus with regular revisions adding job oriented topics like Chromatographic techniques, Micelles, organometallics etc.,

Admissions are according to the university norms ie., the student should qualify AUCET/ ANUCET. The intake of students is 33. Nearly 60% of them are from rural background belonging to SC, ST and OBC categories.

The dept maintains a library, chemistry journals and has a computer with broad band facility and access to Inflibnet. The faculty prepares reading material and laboratory manuals.

Kekule Club Activities

Chemistry is a big part of our everyday life. We find chemistry in the foods we eat, the air we breathe, the soap, our emotions and literally every object we can see or touch. Everything is made of chemicals. We are made of chemicals. Drugs are Chemicals. Many of the changes we observe around us are caused by chemical reactions. Examples include changing colors of leaves, cooking food and getting clean. Though chemistry is difficult to learn, but it is very important to learn it. The major advantage is in the medicinal field. Organic chemistry is the chemistry of carbon compounds. Kekule was the Father of Organic Chemistry. In honourof Kekule our club was named after him. The club was started in the year 2006.
